How I Fix Bodies and Get Those Amazing “After” Pictures

Hi , and welcome to Stay Mobile KC, your source for inspiration on getting and staying active in Kansas City. I’m Dr. Steph, and I’m the chiropractor who makes house calls. So, I come to you whether you’re at home or at work. And I get you feeling better faster, so you can get right back to your productive day.

So what I wanted to talk to you about today is how what I do is different from other structural correction providers. Now. I always show these before and after photos with posture. As if people go to see a chiropractor for posture. Now. Some people do, but not a lot. I do see people who do performance type activities, like the one I’m involved in.

I’m an artistic roller skater. And that’s like doing ballroom dancing on skates. So I do dances like waltzes, tangos, and things like that. And of course posture, as you know, in ballroom dancing is very important. So, you know being able to arch my back up and have really great posture is important in getting more points from the judges. And I love getting points from the judges.

So…I do have people come to me for postural correction itself, but the reality is, as a chiropractor, I do correct a lot of pain. Most people come to see me because they’re having pain in their bodies. And what really inspires me to do my work, is when someone has pain in their body, they’re worried that it’s going to interfere with or maybe even cause them to stop doing the sport that they love. When I get them feeling better and able to go back to that sport faster and be able to stay in the sport longer, that is what makes me excited and happy as a chiropractor. I guess that’s what inspires me.

But back to this structural correction that I do. I have my little spine so I can explain to you what I do, and how it’s different. And let’s talk a little about the spine. If you think of it like a stack of blocks, there are, you know, all these here and those blocks of course, are movable. We have muscles on the front that can pull vertebra forward. So if something is stuck backwards, we actually have muscles that will self-correct that. We have muscles to pull and rotate. And pull laterally, in that direction, the sideways direction. Those muscles can rotate 0r pull sideways.

So if we have a vertebra stuck in one of those directions, we have muscles that can automatically correct it.

We do have muscles in the back of the spine, but they pull downward so that we can be upright and our body can function well. When our body is curved in that direction, the rotation, the motions of the spine aren’t as effective as they are here. You have better range of motion. And that’s getting deep into the weeds. I’m going to be quiet about that now and get back to my point.

So , say we have something stuck backwards. We have muscles to pull it forward. We have something stuck to the side. We have muscles to pull it back to the other side. We have something that’s rotated, we have muscles to correct that. The only direction we don’t have something to correct is if something is stuck forward, towards the front of the body.

Now, if we have something stuck forward, there’s no muscle or group of muscles that can pull a vertebra back in this direction.

So what I do that’s different is, I have a way of identifying exactly what needs to be corrected. What is stuck forward. And I treat only those things that are stuck forward. Everything else, the body has it there for a purpose and I respect the body’s wisdom.

So I correct only what’s stuck forward and I gently move it back in that direction. As a matter of fact, when I set up to do corrections, most of them are done against the wall. And some of them are done on the table. But when I get them set up, and I put the body in position to correct it often times it just sets itself. You know, I give that vertebra what it needs and before I even complete the motion, which is really just rolling you backwards or moving you upright on the wall. Before I do that, often, it’ll just click. And you can hear the “click” as it clicks into place.

So…essentially, that’s how what I do is different. And it’s an entire system of treating the body head to toe.

If you’ve enjoyed this, let me know. If you have any questions, leave a comment, send me an email. And I look forward to seeing you next time. I’m Doctor Steph with Stay Mobile KC.
